According to resident Bob Fulmer, “Every day, I work out in the fitness center, and it’s one of the best fitness centers I have ever seen. Fantastic for a senior residence and competitive with any place you’d ever want to go. They really do a nice job.”

Bob doesn’t just make use of the latest equipment to stay fit; he also explores the gorgeous, 450-acre campus with his dog, Buffy. “Buffy the dog and I walk 4 times a day,” Bob said. “There’s lots of room outside to take Buffy wherever he wants to go.”

The amenities don’t stop there. The Overlook also offers delicious, farm-to-table dining. With an award-winning chef and beautiful ambience, the Acacia Dining Room always offers a delicious, healthful meal. Although our residents do venture off to the city regularly, you can find anything you need right on campus.

“There’s a barbershop, beauty shop, you can buy stamps, anything!” resident Jeanne Charpentier excitedly explained. “I mean if you want it, it’s here.” Residents Bob and Tina Burnham agree with this sentiment. “It’s all here,” Bob said. “Our apartment isn’t just these three rooms. Our living space includes a pool, a library, a game room, a lovely restaurant and 450 acres of walking trails.”

Other offerings at The Overlook include a 280-seat performing arts center, a woodworking shop, an art studio, a dog park and a large, beautiful community garden. With so much to offer, it is no wonder The Overlook is MA’s top pick for retirement living.

Social life

The residents at The Overlook are extraordinarily friendly. Resident Kathy Berg said, “I really, really like the people I met here. Everybody’s so down to earth and friendly. You never pass anyone without them saying hello. And they’re very inclusive. You fight over the new people coming in to see who can have them at the table faster.”

Jeanne Charpentier shares Kathy’s enthusiasm for the social life at The Overlook. “There are just not enough hours in the day,” she shared. “We bump into people all the time. If you’re in a funk, if you’re feeling a little down, you’ll say ‘Well, I’ll just go get my mail.’ It’s a 10-minute trip to get your mail, but 45 minutes later, I’m giggling all over the place and laughing. And I don’t know anyone who doesn’t return a smile.”

To accentuate this social atmosphere, The Overlook has a long list of exciting clubs and activities! Bob Fulmer shared, “I’m in a bunch of clubs. I’m in the garden club. We’re in the tennis club; so, we play tennis once a week. We’re in the brew club which has its own label, ‘Senior Moments’ beer, which has turned out to be a wonderful thing. We have something brewing all the time. I’m also in the chorus!”

The brew club, otherwise known as “The Brew Crew,” is a popular club with residents. Bob Burnham shared, “We have a beer brewery here, which is like a home. It’s noncommercial, and we have a heck of a lot of fun doing that.”
