At The Overlook, a Continuing Care Retirement Community, we provide numerous opportunities to have fun by staying fit, socializing, and nourishing yourself with delicious dining options.
Read on to learn how The Overlook helps residents embrace an active retirement each day while feeling refreshed and revived.
Amenities and Socialization Opportunities
At The Overlook, there are always activities available thanks to our many Resident clubs and community-sponsored events. A fantastic location for musical performances, thought-provoking talks, and special events, our Performing Arts Center has a lovely 280-seat auditorium. In addition to the arts, residents have set up committees to support and promote our recycling programs, library, dining options, gardening, and other initiatives. You might also take up some volunteer work with organizations and initiatives that support the community, such as Project Linus, Silver Knitters, and The Angel Fund.
If you’d like something a little more consistent, there’s a club for everyone! Whether your interests lie in enhancing your health, crafting something with your hands, or giving back to the neighborhood, you’re sure to find something that interests you. Some of our clubs include:
The Garden Club, where you can tend to both ground-level and raised garden beds
A weekly Knitting Group
Opportunities to write articles and submit photography for The Observer, our community newsletter
The Quilts of Love Club, which meets twice a month to make quilts for your home
There are also lots of fun games available to all residents. This includes favorites like bingo, bridge, dominoes, mahjong, cribbage, croquet, Pitch, Wii Bowling, and Pokeno.
Fitness and Wellness Programming
Living a life of abundance is the focus of The Overlook, a thriving, dynamic 50+ community. Our fitness center is the “center” of attention – not just for residents of The Overlook but also for the surrounding community, as it is open to the general public (ages 50+), who can stop in for a workout or two.
It’s simple to stay healthy and fit with our roomy, well-stocked gym and heated indoor pool. If you need a little assistance, we even provide personal training customized for your requirements and specific objectives. The fitness center offers aquacise classes, chair yoga, balance classes and workshops, walking groups, tai chi, and even meditation courses.
You’re also invited to make good use of our lovely grounds. Situated where cross-country ski and on-campus walking routes intersect, our community also features a tennis and pickleball court and horseshoe pits for a little outdoor fun.
Activities for the Introvert
You don’t have to be extremely outgoing to enjoy the activities and programs available at The Overlook. There are plenty of ways to get involved, even without being a social butterfly.
If you’re an active senior, go for walks or go bird-watching. If you love to learn, attend an Overlook University presentation. Even activities that help you remain active, like tai chi, meditation and yoga are simple for introverts to enjoy.
Dining at The Overlook
The Overlook boasts brilliant chefs and their farm-to-table culinary program, which uses natural, sustainable foods from nearby farms and suppliers. And as always, we’re very happy to work with The Pepper Pot, a Massachusetts-based producer who uses no-till and organic producing methods.
Our team of culinary professionals not only offers fine food, but they’re also passionate about the quality of ingredients and sourcing food locally. This team firmly believes in a holistic approach that nourishes the minds, bodies, and souls of members of our entire community via high-quality food.
You can round out each day as a resident of The Overlook with a meal at Tucker’s Cafe or the Acacia Restaurant for bistro-style and elegant dining.
Even better, whether you choose to participate in a wide range of activities or not, our dining experience allows for plenty of socialization, inspiring residents to delight in delicious dining, savor time spent with friends, and indulge in opportunities to connect with others.
