The Overlook in Charlton provides members of our community plenty of enriching activities to encourage active living, genuine connections and continuous learning. Every event and activity on our robust calendar support ongoing personal growth for everyone living here, every time of year.
This is just a sampling of what you’ll find happening here. It may not be what you expect for a retirement community in Massachusetts, and that’s exactly the point!
Through our new initiative, Overlook University, we offer tons of inspiring classes to educate residents on the many opportunities and services presented to them here at The Overlook. This 12-part syllabus, which runs for 6 months from September 2021 to February 2022, was developed to feature different components of The Overlook continuum. If any person attends at least 10 of these classes, he or she gets the opportunity to participate in a graduation ceremony. Graduates will receive a free sweatshirt from The Overlook as a token of their completion of the program. However, they really get so much more: a full knowledge of everything at their disposal so they can live their ideal retirement lifestyle!
The program kicked off in September, where we hosted classes on the Introduction to the Continuum, Overlook University & Concierge Services. In addition, we hosted a Marketing 101 class to teach our residents about all the ways The Overlook promotes our community, including digital marketing, traditional marketing, mailers and more.
In October, our classes include Overlook Operational & Organizational Structure 101 and Introduction to Building and Grounds, Safety & Security. Participants learn about The Overlook’s connection to the Masons and Grand Lodge in a brief lookback on key milestones on the Charlton campus. In addition, the class presents lessons about the physical environment and about how we provide and maintain a safe environment for all residents and guests. Additionally, Overlook University students learn how to get involved with the beautification club and how and when to request work orders for their maintenance-free homes.
In November, The Overlook plans to host a class on Wellness Nursing 101, where residents will learn about care coordination, health transitions, programs offered and private care services, and receive assistance with finding community resources. The second class being offered in November is the Introduction to Overlook Finance, where we will review budgeting, projections and finances. Participants will learn how to stay physically and financially healthy for the years to come. More classes are available throughout the next few months.
In addition to the chance to graduate from Overlook University, members of this community can also take part in an array of inspiring events this fall. To learn more about the exciting events, contact us.
Upcoming Events at The Overlook
Upcoming events include our regular Concerts in the Courtyard on Tuesday evenings with live bands, great drinks and fun with your neighbors. Further, if staying active is a top priority for you, The Overlook has ample opportunities to empower your physical wellness. You can join the tennis club, walking club, pickleball club and more. We also offer creative outlets for members of the community through our chorus, woodworking classes and art & conversation sessions. And here’s something you definitely didn’t expect at a place like The Overlook: If you love the art of craft beer, consider meeting with the Brew Crew, our resident-led club that has created multiple award-winning beers. The crew will get you to have a Senior Moment—the good kind—their signature concoction on tap.
There’s always something our residents are doing to be involved with the local Charlton and Worcester area community. We recently visited Music Worcester for a fantastic concert, enjoyed a silent movie night and enjoyed a Woo Sox game at Polar Park.
Exploring New England
We also have a series of day trips planned, with stops along the way. After a long year without getting to visit new sites due to COVID-19, our residents are excited to get out and about once more. Destinations include Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Newport, Rhode Island. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for more exciting details regarding the exact stops on our exciting road trip.
